SANGHITA BANERJEE The Kamala Sircar Chatterjee Medal for Commitment to Excellence in the study of History has been instituted (from the year 2007) by Ms. Anuradha Chatterjee, Head – Dept. of History in memory of her grandmother, the late Mrs. Kamala Chatterjee. Mrs. Kamala Sircar Chatterjee was the youngest daughter of Sir Nilratan Sircar. Born in 1899, she studied History at Loreto College from 1917 – 1919 and then became one of the first Indian women to graduate in Modern History from the University of Oxford in 1924. She became an eminent Social Worker and did pioneering research on the condition of women in coal-mining areas. She published widely, mostly on women’s issues. She died in 2002, in her 103rd year. LAGNAJEETA DAS The Prof. Gurudas Bandyopadhyay Medalhas been instituted by Mrs. Anindita Bandyopadhyay of the History Department in memory of her father-in-law, the late Prof. Gurudas Bandyopadhyay.
