Since August 2004, Loreto College has been working in close co-operation with the International Partnership for Service-Learning and Leadership (IPSL), which has its head-quarters in New York, U.S.A. It was founded by a group of eminent educationists from American Universities. Students from various universities come to Calcutta - to Loreto College in two batches for One semester each. August to October and January to March. At the end of the semester, transcripts are given to each student. IPSL subscribes to the ideal that education should not only touch upon the lives and careers of the educated but must also reach out to transform society at large. It believes that education is not only a tool for personal career-building but also a means by which one can serve the less-privileged members of our society. It shares the same ideal that Loreto College is committed to, i.e. to reach out all - to the community, the deprived through committed service.

Higher Education is not about power, might, materialism - It is about transcendence of barriers, about service to humanity. The IPSL has connected several countries through this credo and spread service-learning throughout the globe. As IPSL's distinguished partner, Loreto College, Kolkata, will team up with the Tagore - Gandhi Institute for Culture Studies and Service-Learning, the other distinguished partner of IPSL in Kolkata, India. Particular care is taken to take educational initiatives keeping in mind the current higher educational scenario in West Bengal. Faculty members of the college offer courses on relevant themes related to Indian life, tradition, society and culture to visiting foreign students as well as college students during two terms per year. Participating students are placed in various work-stations and locations such as orphanages, hospitals, old-age homes, slums & street children projects, adult education projects, etc. These experiences are meant to be mutually beneficial for the target group and the student volunteers. One significant advantage of service-learning properly executed is that it allows real encounters, causing students to realize others' needs and to absorb wholly, different and diverse lifestyles and cultures. We challenge ourselves to act .. as one Body,.. with one Mission ...
